CHURCH  STAFF

David Moutz, Lead Pastor

My name is David Moutz and I have been the Pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church for 10 years. I am a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia and Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. I am married, and we have two adult children.

I have a heart for this city, this place and the people. I am grateful for the variety of talented staff and people that I am privileged to work with at Oakwood.

This church has changed and is growing. We strive to be connected in our neighborhoods and the greater community of Charleston. We are a diverse group, for which we are very thankful. It makes us stronger and better as a church who wants to represent the grace of Christ to this community and the world.

I want to invite you to Oakwood. We are not perfect. We are a group of people who want to come to Jesus and go to others – together.

Kyle Huffman, Pastor of Student Ministries

My name is Kyle Huffman, and I am the Pastor of Student Ministries at Oakwood Baptist. I grew up here in Charleston and have been a member of Oakwood my whole life. I graduated from George Washington High School and then King University in Bristol, Tennessee. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Claire.

I started as a pastor at Oakwood in 2015. Working with youth at Oakwood is one of the best jobs I could ever ask for. I love getting to work with a diverse group of teenagers from various walks of life and seeing them grow in their faith and in life.

At Oakwood, we encourage students to be themselves, do what they love, connect with others, and find out who God made them to be. My hope is that every student who comes through our program learns that Jesus loves them and that he has a plan for their life.

Krista Durden, Children's Ministry Director

Hi! I'm Krista Durden, and I am the Children's Ministry Director at Oakwood Baptist Church.  My husband, Witt, and I started attending Oakwood in 2015 with our two young children.  We love the church family we have found here, and love serving God alongside them.

I didn't take the typical route to working in ministry.  After college I began a career in accounting, then became a stay-at-home mom when I had my first child.  After my family started attending Oakwood Baptist Church, I felt called to the Children's Ministry Director role.

There are two things I love about my job. First, I love to be able to make learning about God fun, creative, and engaging. Second, I love watching the children at Oakwood grow - both in their knowledge of God & His word and in their relationships here at Oakwood.

Marsha Raker, Director of Music

My name is Marsha Raker, and I have been the Director of Music at Oakwood Baptist for the past 20+ years. I just recently retired as a music educator from Boone County Schools where I served for 32 years. I am married and have two adult children and two wonderful grandsons!

I am very passionate about how we approach music at OBC. I feel there are no traditional, contemporary, or even blended styles of music. It’s all worship! There are no specific “teams” that lead. It’s a team effort including the instrumentalists and the choir. We are blessed to be a crazy fun-filled musical family. As we seek to lead worship, we do so in understanding that God brings us together each week as dedicated servants who pray, plan and participate as we lift our praise to the Audience of One.

Debi Walker, Office Administrator

Hello! I have been working with Oakwood Baptist Church since 2012 and serve as the Office Administrator. I feel blessed to be working with a gifted pastor and staff.

I serve as a Precept Ministry teacher for another local body of believers. As a former Director of Women's Ministry, I was Charleston's City Coordinator for Beth Moore. I've also worked with Chonda Pierce, Patsy Clairmont, and the late Zig Ziglar.

Nothing compares to my first and remaining love of teaching Bible studies and have always felt a call to pray for the hurting and those in need.

I worked as an Executive Secretary for many years and was also employed by the Senate of West Virginia. My college education was from Marshall University,
